International Conference On Nuclear Engineering (ICONE25) in Shanghai
In July of this year, the International Conference On Nuclear Engineering (ICONE25) was held in Shanghai under the motto "Nuclear Power - Clean, Safe and Reliable Energy". ICONE is one of the most important conferences in the field of nuclear engineering and was held for the 25th time this year. Numerous specialist lectures were presented on current topics from research and development as well as applications in the field of nuclear technology. In addition, representatives from industry and politics discussed and debated in several plenary sessions the contribution of nuclear energy to solving the global energy problem, taking into account the agreed climate targets (CO2 emissions).
As part of the "Student Paper Competition" series of lectures, Mr. Fiß, research associate at the Institute of Process Engineering, Process Automation and Measurement Technology (IPM) in Prof. Kratzsch's research group, presented the current results of the joint project "Fundamental F&E work on methods of condition monitoring of transport and storage casks for spent fuel elements and heat-generating high-level radioactive waste during extended interim storage" (short title: DCS-Monitor). The project is being carried out jointly with the AREVA Endowed Chair for Imaging Measurement Methods for Energy and Process Engineering at TU Dresden.
In addition to the lecture, there was also the opportunity to present the current project results in a poster session. The IPM poster was awarded the "Best Poster Award" for the best European contribution.
Mr. Fiß took the opportunity to present the results achieved so far in the DCS-Monitor joint project and thus to demonstrate the IPM's expertise in the field of nuclear technology and condition monitoring and to arouse the interest of international companies and institutions. In addition to the technical presentations at the conference, the personal contacts made were very interesting in order to initiate possible international research collaborations and exchange knowledge.
The DCS-Monitor joint project is funded by the BMWi.
