New certificated boiler operator at the IPM

Mr. Steffen Härtelt (IPM) has successfully completed a training as a certified boiler operator.

Mr. Steffen Härtelt is now the fourth employee of the Institute for Process Technology, Process Automation and Measurement Technology (IPM) to have successfully completed a further training as a boiler operator in September. This qualification enables him to independently operate the THERESA test plant in the Zittau power plant laboratory. As part of his work in the department "Measurement Technology/Process Automation" of the IPM, he is currently working on research projects for the development and experimental qualification of thermal energy storage systems.

During the three-week course, which was financially supported by the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz, knowledge about the safe operation, maintenance and servicing of steam boiler plants and their safety-related equipment was imparted theoretically and practically. The participants were also given comprehensive information about the existing legal and normative regulations, such as the Product Safety Act, the Pressure Equipment Directive and the Technical Rules for Operational Safety.

With the successful completion of the course, the personnel and technical orientation of the research group was optimized according to the growing requirements of current and future projects: From now on, long-term experiments lasting several days can be easily implemented in the Zittau power plant laboratory.

The institute management congratulates Mr. Härtelt on passing the examination and wishes him every possible success for his future work.
