Over 90 participants discussed issues relating to the efficient use of solid biomass as an energy source at the conference.
Under the patronage of the Saxon State Minister for the Environment and Agriculture, Mr. Thomas Schmidt, the conference "Biomass to Power and Heat" was held for the sixth time at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences from 31 May to 1 June . The event welcomed over 90 participants, who primarily discussed issues relating to the efficient use of solid biomass as an energy source. The related issues of decentralized electricity and heat generation from biomass were discussed by the speakers from many different angles, providing the basis for lively discussions during the breaks.
In addition to the aspects and possibilities of sustainable biomass provision, the presentation of different system solutions for the decentralized generation of useful energy from biomass and their application, including the coupled thermal and electrical engineering aspects, formed a further thematic focus. In addition, various representatives from abroad presented existing activities for the use of biomass as an energy source. The final block of lectures again dealt directly with technical solutions and issues relating to the thermochemical conversion of biomass.
The speakers came from all over Germany, but also from the Czech Republic and Switzerland. They mainly represented privately and publicly funded research institutions as well as specialist federal and state institutions.
Parallel to the plenary session, various companies and associations once again presented themselves at small exhibition stands, providing conference participants with additional space for detailed questions and suggestions.
The main focus of the event has always been the intensive exchange between science and practice - an added value that is appreciated both by the practice-oriented scientists at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and by those companies and institutions that deal with the topic of energy from biomass on a daily and very practical basis.
Following the specialist colloquium, a conference volume will be compiled and published in collaboration with the individual speakers. The organizers will also be holding further events on this topic at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in the coming years.
