Kickoff Meeting for Elitenmonitor II in Leipzig

On January 22, 2026, the kick-off meeting for the collaborative project “Elitenmonitor II,” funded by the Federal Commissioner for Eastern Germany, took place at the University of Leipzig.

The project consortium consists of: the University of Leipzig (Institute of Political Science, co-project leaders: Prof. A. Lorenz and Dr. L. Vogel), Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Institute of Political Science, co-project leader: Prof. M. Reiser), and Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (TRAWOS Institute, co-project leader: Prof. R. Kollmorgen).
The focus was on an exchange with staff members and the head of the working group of the Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany, Stephan Bull. On the one hand, the modules and measures for the new funding phase (October 2025–December 2028) were presented and discussed. On the other hand, possible practical steps to improve the representation of East Germans in leadership positions were discussed, as well as concrete instruments and formats for the coming months.
In addition, substantive and methodological issues related to the project were discussed during the meeting. These included an examination of sociological perspectives on power dynamics among elites, the selection of project-relevant elite positions in the justice sector, and agreements regarding the design of future data collection. Furthermore, feedback on the podcast episodes produced last year as part of the collaborative project was addressed.
The next project meeting will take place on July 9, 2026.
