Bernadette Rohlf giving a lecture on women in STEM subjects
The first Görlitz Science Slam took place on March 20, 2025. The event was a collaboration between the Deutschen Zentrums für Astrophysik and Rabryka.
Scientists from various institutes and institutions in Görlitz presented their research topics in 10-minute lectures. The audience was thoroughly entertained and gained insights into scientific work on cellulose foams, chimpanzee insect interaction and trial living in Görlitz, among other topics. Bernadette Rohlf, research assistant at TRAWOS in the ESF-Nachwuchsforschungsgruppe "Frauenförderung durch individuelle und organisationale Kompetenzen in Bildung und Beruf (MINT)" (Promoting women through individual and organizational skills in education and careers (MINT)) presented her current project work and a selection of capybaras.
Women are severely underrepresented in STEM subjects, especially at higher career levels. Using her research methodology, Bernadette Rohlf links these structures to the specific experiences and decisions of the women themselves and discusses these findings with stakeholders from the academic context (e.g., professors). The audience awarded points after each presentation and at the end of the evening, Jens Weber (HSZG) won and Bernadette Rohlf took second place.
